The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) Board of Directors met at the Bayfrnot Tower on 1st Street South in downtown St. Petersburg, on Thursday, December 13, 2007. Tim Baker called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
Rays Baseball: A brief business meeting preceded a Christmas party. The discussion centered around the proposal by the Rays baseball organization to build a new stadium on the Downtown waterfront, and to redevelop the 86-acre site now occupied by the Tropicana dome. Of particular interest was the city’s schedule for issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the Tropicana site.
A consensus developed that the city was not allowing enough time for either public input on the project, or for responses to the RFP from national developers.
It was moved by Richard Freeburg and seconded by Marilyn Olsen that the DNA board hold a special meeting to discuss the association’s response to the city schedule. The special meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 3, at the UPS Store, was unanimously approved.
After further discussion, it was moved by Peter Belmont and seconded by Mike Johnson, that DNA immediately ask the Council to allow enough time for public participation in the RFP process, with details to follow after the special board meeting. This motion also passed unanimously. Tim Baker and Marilyn Olsen agreed to set up a meeting with Council chair Jamie Bennett.
The meeting was adjourned after this motion passed.
