The Board of Directors of the Downtown Neighborhood Association met on Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the public room at the Florencia Condominium on Beach Drive.
Present were Marilyn Olsen (president), Tim Baker (secretary), Marlys Meckler, Sydni Shollenberger, Bob Calistri, Marie Stirling and Peter Belmont. Absent were Allan Brockway, Gary Grooms, Joe Pugliano, Michael Johnson and John Belovitz.
President Marilyn Olsen called the meeting to order shortly after 7 p.m.
Minutes – The minutes from the February meeting had been emailed to all board members. A motion to approve those minutes was made by Mr. Calistri and seconded by Ms. Shollenberger. The motion was approved.
Treasurer’s Report – Mr. Brockway was absent due to illness. The latest treasurer’s report was available on the DNA website prior to the meeting. Ms. Shollenberger moved, with a second by Mr. Calistri, that the report be approved. It was.
Membership – As of March 11, DNA had 178 paid members, which is the most in the organization’s history.
Bar Closing Hours – Ms. Olsen reported that the City of St. Petersburg is considering changing the legal closing hour for bars to 3 a.m. Currently, bars must close by 2 a.m. Among the reasons for the proposal is that Hillsborough County allows bars to close at 3 a.m., and having the same hour would make St. Petersburg more competitive. It has also been suggested that it might reduce the number of people driving to Hillsborough to take advantage of that extra hour. The board discussed the idea at length, and then decided to raise the issue at the next general membership meeting.
Williams Park -There was a brief discussion of recent events at Williams Park, such as the loss of the concert series. No action was taken.
Adjourn – The meeting adjourned at about 8:30 p.m.
