The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) Board of Directors met at the Hilton Hotel, downtown St. Petersburg, on Thursday, March 8, 2007. Tim Baker called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Minutes of the February 8, 2007, meeting were approved as written.
Allan Brockway presented the treasurer’s report, which included the number of paid members: 129.
President Tim Baker reported on correspondence and community meetings. He reported that no DNA member had yet responded to an invitation from the City of St. Petersburg to nominate a person to serve on the Civilian Police Review Committee. He also reported briefly on a meeting he and Marilyn Olsen had attended with City Council member Leslie Curran.
Tim Baker and Peter Belmont addressed issues related to proposed zoning changes and the City’s use of bonus points in determining the allowable FAR for development projects.
MOTION: Mike Johnson moved, Sydni Shollenberger seconded, that the City of St. Petersburg amend its proposed zoning map to include all public property between Fifth Avenue North and the Whitted Airport property east of First Street be included in the new downtown central park zoning category. The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Sydni Shollenberger moved, Marilyn Olsen seconded, that the City of St. Petersburg amend its proposed zoning map to include the St. Petersburg Yacht Club in the new downtown central park zoning category. The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Marilyn Olsen moved, Sydni Shollenberger seconded, that the City of St. Petersburg amend its proposed zoning map for downtown to include the Museum of Fine Arts in the new downtown central park zoning category. The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Mike Johnson moved, Joe Pugliano seconded that the City be asked to conduct regular review of the FAR bonus system every three years. The motion passed unanimously.
John Harte reported on his efforts to gather information, including a meeting planned with the CityÕs Beautification Committee.
HOMELESS TASK FORCE:
Mike Johnson and Dick Freeburg reported on their work as part of the City’s Homeless Task Force.
MOTION: Sydni Shollenberger moved, John Harte seconded, that the DNA support the Homeless Task Force position on non-enforcement of a City ordinance against sleeping in a public place until a sufficient number of beds are available in the City and County. The motion passed unanimously.
Tim Baker distributed a flyer promoting advertisements in the DNA Newsletter and on the website.
Discussion of old and new business included possible speakers and topics for the April 12, 2007, general meeting at Sunshine Center; plans for new downtown development; parking lots, and a possible July social event/general meeting at a downtown waterfront venue.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
