Board Minutes October 12, 2009

The Board of Directors of the Downtown Neighborhood Association met on Thursday, Novembe3r 12, at the Florencia building. The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm.

Attending: Peter Belmont, John Harte, Allan Brockway, Michael Johnson, Sydni Shollenberger, Marlys Meckler, Marilyn Olsen

Guests/New Co-Chairs: Ron Stein, Frank Bird

Not Attending: Tim Baker, Joe Pugliano, Marie Stirling, Gene Ormond, Richard Freeburg,

Minutes of the previous meeting approved as posted.

Allan Brockway presented the October Treasurer’s Report which will be posted online.

Ron Stein and Frank Bird shared the Friends of Mirror Lake proposal and vision. Sydni Shollenberger moved that Friends of Mirror Lake Committee be formally added to DNA, seconded by Mike Johnson, approved unanimously. Ron Stein and Frank Bird will co-chair.

Membership campaign: Allan Brockway will send an email membership renewal notice. The December newsletter will have a reminder and be sent to the full mailing list. A letter will be sent to current members who have not renewed in January with a stamped, addressed envelop budgeted at approximately $500. He noted that there were already 40 paid members primarily resulting from the UPP events.

Allan Brockway moved, seconded by Marlys Meckler and passed unanimously that the Urban Porch Party Committee be formalized. In the absence of another volunteer, Marilyn Olsen will continue to be acting chair until a replacement is named. There will be a planning meeting in early December.

Michael Johnson gave a brief update on homeless issues and presented the St. Petersburg Gardens of Hope concept. Allan Brockway moved, seconded by Sydni Shollenberger, passed unanimously that DNA support the concept of St. Petersburg Gardens of Hope. Mike will update us after the organizing meeting. If the concept moves forward he has requested space for a notice in the DNA newsletter.

Sydni Shollenberger gave an overview of the Waterfront Parks Centennial. Allan Brockway moved, John Harte seconded, passed unanimously that DNA contribute $500 to SPP WPC Fund.

Hazardous waste pickup event: Allan Brockway and John Harte volunteered to research an event for early 2010.

Board nominations for 2010: Allan Brockway will canvas current board members and solicit candidate nominations to fill vacancies on the board for 2010.
