The annual meeting of the Downtown Neighborhood Associaiton was held on Thursday, January 10, at the Sunshine Center, 330 5th Street North. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m.by president Marilyn Olsen.
The minutes from the previous membership meeting and the latest treasurer’s report were both approved as posted on the associaiton web site.
Ms. Olsen introduced guest Karl Nurse, a City Council member who represents part of the Downtown neighborhood. She then gave a brief wrap-up of association accomplishments over the past few years.
Ms. Olsen turned the floor over to board member Gary Grooms, the chair of the election committee. Mr. Grooms announced that there were 12 candidates for 12 board seats, after one announced candidates withdrew. He opened the floor to more nominations, but none were received. The 12 candidates were then elected by acclamation. The board members are, in alphabetical order, Brian Bailey, David, Hirschman, Lottie Belovitz, Paul Carder, Gary Grooms, Dan Harvey, Marlys Meckler, Marilyn Olsen, Joe Pugliano, Terry Rimer, George Saltsman and Barbara Riddle-Dvorak.
Following the election, guest speaker Dave Goodwin was introduced. Mr. Goodwin, the city’s director of planning and economic development, gave a presentation about the city’s recently adopted Central Avenue Revitalization plan. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
